Adult Hockey Training Camps and Lessons
Irrespective of age or hockey experience, any player can improve his/her skating and hockey skills’ ability. A willingness to learn and improve is essential – attitude is everything! Our adult hockey camps focus on improving your technical and game skills and will make playing hockey a more enjoyable experience for you. Year-round, Tucker Hockey offers adult hockey lessons for men and women of all ages and skill levels, so whether you’re new to the game, looking for a refresher or seeking to hone your individual or tactical skills, our adult hockey camps are perfect for you! Anyone is welcome to sign up for our adult hockey lessons; all we ask is that you can skate forwards comfortably.
Our Calgary-based adult hockey camps include many great training options:
This adult power skating and player development program focuses on the technical skills of skating, puck control, passing and shooting. The program is weighted 60% on power skating and 40% on hockey skills. It is ideal for the recreational hockey player who wishes to improve his/her skills.
Although it is presented in a group setting, our drills focus on the needs of the individual. You don’t have to worry about other skaters being more skilled or less skilled; it is a ‘go at your own pace’ program. It’s a ‘you and the drill’ hockey development philosophy.
Our adult power skating lessons start with the basic hockey stance and then progress through a full curriculum of power skating drills and hockey skills fundamentals. You will be coached and given feedback throughout the program, with the goal being to improve your hockey skills. Each adult beginner session will include scrimmage time to practice these new skills.
Note: The only prerequisite is that you can skate forwards comfortably.
“Taking the adult fundamentals course was a game changer to start my season off on the right skate. It confirmed what I was doing well and also what I had to work on. I was able to take the ideas back to my game and make every subsequent skate an intentional improvement because I had the proper technique. Great to know that as an adult, we can all still improve.”
~ Jennifer Z., Adult Recreational Player
This technical skills and tactical player development program builds on the skills taught in the Adult Technical Skills Hockey Program and also introduce individual offensive and defensive tactics plus group tactics. This adult hockey program is ideal for the recreational hockey player wishing to improve his/her technical skills and learn more about playing the game.
This program consists of 60% technical skills (give and go passing, one-timer shooting) and 40% tactical play (delays, walkouts, cycling, puck protection, 1-on-1’s, 2-on-1’s, breakouts, and face-offs etc). Each session includes scrimmage practice time.
We would encourage participants in our Adult Technical Skills Hockey Program to discuss their progress and competence with a Tucker Hockey head instructor prior to registering for Advanced Technical & Tactical Hockey Program, which is heavily weighted on the tactical components of the game and requires a level of competence in many technical hockey skills, especially skating and passing. To feel comfortable doing the drills and benefit from the Advanced Technical & Tactical Hockey Program, participants should be able to skate comfortably with the puck and give and receive timely passes while in stride. Pivoting competently while in motion is a necessity for success. Most of the drills require active skating and passing while interacting with other players.
“I have known Rex since 2007 and have played shinny hockey for over 20 years. Rex has taken my game to a completely different level with his basic hockey training and fundamentals, yet making it fun, challenging, and imaginative. Anyone remotely interested in playing hockey should NOT miss an opportunity to attend one of his clinics. I highly recommend Rex both as a hockey coach/trainer.”
~ Arthur W., Adult Recreational Hockey Player
Throughout the year, we offer various specialized hockey clinics, focusing on specific areas that adult hockey players find the most challenging. Subject to availability of ice and participants, we offer the following organized, adult group hockey camps:
- Backward Skating/D-Man :Will cover proper hockey stance, starting and stopping, edge control, striding, crossovers and cross-unders and for¬ward to backward and backward to for¬ward pivots. Defensive tactics include: D to D and breakout passing, shooting from the point, net play and active stick, defensive positioning and angling, 1-on-1, 2-on-1 play and gap control.
- Hybrid Technical/Tactical : Ideally suited for Technical Skills (Fundamentals) past participants who are not quite ready for the demands of a full Advanced Technical & Tactical Program. It introduces offensive and defensive game tactics as well as an opportunity for players to stretch their technical skills.
- Puck Control :Will cover proper techniques for handling the puck, as well as stationary and moving puck handling, stick fakes, deking, toe drags, puck protection and keep-away.
- Shooting :Will cover the wrist shot, snap shot, slap shot, flip shot and back¬hand shot from both stationary and moving situations, as well as one-timers and shooting under pressure.
“The caliber of instruction is fantastic, and the pace of progression was just right. I noticed improvement after each and every lesson.”
~ Sean D., Adult Recreational Player
