Tucker Hockey turns 20 in the year 2018, and we want to celebrate this major milestone with our loyal current and past participants!
“We just wanted to thank you so much for everything you’ve done for James this year. You are an exceptional coach and your knowledge, patience and kindness have been invaluable to James’s growth. Thank you for providing such a positive environment for James to grow as both a hockey player and a young man. You are much appreciated. Seeing James move from a hesitant 3 on 3 player to a first line peewee aa player is so touching. Where most coaches would have laughed at the notion of James playing hockey with little to no experience, you embraced him and played on his skill set to enable him to flourish. Thanks so much,
~ Sarah & Anthony P., Parents of James – Winter 2020
“I just wanted to let you know that we really enjoyed our morning lessons with Dave. It is amazing how far Brooklyn has come along in 16 sessions! Her foot speed, stick handling, positioning, etc. has all improved immensely. She has been called up to play AAA hockey for 4 games with the Raiders and was able to obtain 3 points (goal & 2 assists). Not only have her skills improved but her confidence as well. The extra cost for private lessons is well worth the money to see Brook rise to her goals. Dave is an awesome instructor and we appreciate the personal investment her put into coaching Brook, such as coming to watch a few of her games. We appreciate it a lot and hold him dear to our hearts. Hope to see you in August for conditioning and shooting camp. Best regards.”
~ Evelyn P., Mother of Brooklyn
“I signed up for 5 one-on-one hour-long lessons at Tucker Hockey. My first lesson was with David Mahoney and the last four were with Rex himself. I enjoyed every minute of it. They took an overall approach to evaluate where I was at and then they immediately had me working on what i could do to improve all areas of my game from skating, stick handling, passing, shooting, and game play. I’d highly recommend this school to anyone that’s eager to progress; there’s always something to work on.”
~ Robert V., Adult Recreational Player
“Our son Levi was an enthusiastic Peewee 5 hockey player in 2009. Levi struggled with his balance and because of that, was always on the wrong side of the cut following evaluations. We asked around, “Who could give our boy power skating lessons and help him with his stride, balance and confidence?” Rex Tucker was the name we heard a few times and after a brief phone conversation with Rex – Levi was on the ice with him. Rex was patient with Levi but also firm with his direction and coaching. We all knew that Levi was well behind the curve, but his energy and the clear guidance of Rex began to work together. Each week we could see small improvements and after three short months a “Bum down – head up!” Levi began to stride around the rink. It was really fun to watch the change. Today, Levi plays Bantam AAA for the Pursuit of Excellence Academy in Kelowna BC. He is a strong, agile power forward and his team is ranked #2 in Western Canada. Levi has just been accepted to play Midget AAA for the Notre Dame Hounds for the 2012/13 season. There is no doubt in our minds that Rex Tucker is a very large part of this success story. If you or anyone you know is looking for a motivated, insightful and encouraging power skating coach, look no further than Rex Tucker. We give him our strongest recommendation.”
~ Tim & Dawn J., Parents of Levi
“Hi Rex: Just wanted to let you know that Tyler was a ‘new man’ in his games on the weekend. On Saturday, he scored twice (his first two of the year), hit the goalpost once and was stopped on a clear cut breakaway. On Sunday, he was all over the place with scoring opportunities. He just couldn’t cash them in. It is obvious that he has an extra jump in his skating stride. Please keep me informed of any mini-camps that you run throughout the year that you think Ty would fit into. Also, thank you again for the Hitmen tickets and the kind, gentle treatment you gave Ty.”
~ Brian V., Father of Tyson
“Our daughter Alannah has participated in several power skating clinics and one-on-one sessions with Rex and Tucker Hockey over the last four years. She’s enjoys all the ice times and they have helped improve her skating ability. Alannah is confident in her skating, which is a huge asset as she enters her first year in the CIS. She will continue to work with Tucker hockey in the years to come. Thanks Rex and Tucker Hockey for your time and effort!”
~ Merle and Diann J., Parents of Alannah
“The One-on-One coaching from Rex Tucker my son received has helped his skating immensely. Rex worked on specific areas of need that helped take his game to the next level. More importantly his new abilities gave him confidence to take chances and push himself further. Thank you for the opportunity!”
~ Marie L., Mother of Connor
“Tucker Hockey has given our son a fun and positive hockey experience. He has acquired skills which have benefitted him both on and off the ice thanks to the wonderful instruction of Rex Tucker.”
~ Jennifer S., Mother of Lazlo
“Each of our two boys have had the privilege of working with Rex one on one and in team settings. A solid foundation of stance and stride has set both boys up to play the highest level of minor hockey. We will continue to work with Rex as the boys thoroughly enjoy his teaching style and they notice improvement every session. I would recommend Rex and his staff to any parent that is looking to give their player a performance lift.”
~ Christine & Darcy H., Parents of Asher & Levi
“After only a few hours of on ice training, I noticed a great improvement in power and quickness. Rex is a very technical coach and is able to teach fundamentals very effectively.”
~ Peter A., Father of Alex
“My son started hockey this year at age 11. Before Tucker Hockey he could barely stand up – stopping, turning and skating backwards were pretty much non-existent, and as parents we were worried how he would fit in as a “late bloomer”. But the one-on-one sessions he attended with Rex were one of the best opportunities I could give my son – Rex was patient, considerate and so thorough I thought I could skate after just listening to him coach! Rex’s own love of the game shows through in his patience, his endless optimism and his ability to build self-confidence and improve skills. My son was recognized by his coaches as being one of the most improved players that they expect will move up at least a division or two next season. I truly believe that Tucker Hockey deserves credit for the growth and development we (and his coaches) saw over this hockey season. Many thanks Rex!”
~ Cathy D., Mother of Kyle
“When I started working with Rex Tucker, my skating was a huge liability. With his comprehensive and customized program, my skating became a strength. Not only did he help me with fundamental power skating, he helped me become a smarter and more powerful skater . . . he addressed every aspect of my technique including stride and foot speed. When I came to Tucker hockey I was playing midget division 6 and progressed to play in the Calgary Junior B Hockey League last season. You don’t realize how valuable skating is as a skill until you improve it and can actually feel it. No one can have enough power skating lessons, not even the pros, and Rex Tucker is one of the best in the business.”
~ Frank P., Adult Recreational Player
“I thought Tucker Hockey really benefitted my overall hockey skills and especially skating skills. As a player, you may not realize you are doing anything wrong or you just think you’re doing everything right. However, it wasn’t until I did about a dozen one-on-one coaching sessions with Rex Tucker, one of the best power skating instructors out there, that I learned about my potential to improve. I had Rex tweak my skating skills and I have to say I improved dramatically. I learned a lot of little things to get an extra step on an opponent. Even though I was a food skater to begin with, I feel I have reached another level of performance now that I have had Rex Tucker’s personal instruction. There is no such thing as a perfect skater, but there are great skaters. I now feel that a player’s skating skills will always have room for improvement… no matter what level you play. I plan to continue to hone my skating skills to make it to the next level… Thanks for the help Rexy!”
~ Mark B., Former Hockey Player Ferris State University
“Rex, last year you gave my son Tim (from England) some 1-2-1 hockey lessons. This year he made his rec team Coventry… in his first game he scored and got “The Man of the Match”. You have given him so much. Do you realize the effect you can have? You’ve helped him with confidence, fitness, communication and other things… thank you!”
~ Andrew W., Father of Tim
“Two areas of improvement for our son would be balance and agility, particularly the balance. You can yell at him on the ice “Balance” and he gets into the right stance and knows what to do. And the agility has been really good now. He’s learned how to use his feet. The Tucker programs both on and off the ice has given him three things. Number one would be self-discipline, he’s very self-disciplined. He’s developed that because of the different challenging drills he’s done at Tucker Hockey. Secondly, he’s got a lot more self-control, not only on the ice but off as well. And thirdly, self-confidence because some of the drills are extremely challenging and the really challenged our son and the self-confidence has come along both on and off the ice. I would rate it quite superior to other programs that we’ve been in. A lot of times you’re in a large group and you don’t get the one on one attention like you do with this program.”
~ Noel M., Mother of a minor hockey player
“I enrolled my kids in Tucker Hockey to give them one-on-one lessons to learn their hockey skills and also to teach them a good solid work ethic. What I liked about the quality of the ice instruction was the technical teaching of hockey in a fun learning environment. I would rate Tucker Hockey as the best. My other children have been involved in group hockey programs, but the one-on-one hockey program with Tucker definitely gives the focus on intensity that the boys need.”
~ Russ B., Father of Matt & Alex
I really enjoyed the program I took this fall. Ron, Jimmy, and Kurtis provided great instruction and encouragement. My skating has really improved, and I’m feeling more confident on the ice as I play for my team in the South Calgary Rec Hockey League. I’m looking forward to continuing on to the next course with Tucker Hockey in January, and learning more about how to play the game.
~ Roderick R. – Fall 2019
“I attended the second half of the adult fundamentals program that ended this Sunday. It was fantastic and I learned so much. I hope to do the whole program again at some point in the future. Great instructors and so much fun! Thank you, thank you!”
~ Sharon J. – Fall 2019
“I learned a lot during the 10-week Adult program. Ron was always very clear in his instruction, and his ability to demonstrate a skill in slow motion was unbelievable. Rex always had short and to-the point advice “Back straight! Look up!” which was exactly what was needed. Jimmy gave me a lot of extremely useful insight and positive reinforcement. I would like to adopt Jimmy as my new step dad. (Spring 2018) This is my second Tucker Hockey camp/clinic and I’m really pleased. I’ll definitely sign up for another one in the future. (Fall 2018)”
~ Ivan D. – Spring & Fall 2018
“I really enjoyed the program and wish I had more time to participate in more programs like this. I will be back and hope to continue learning more about the game.”
~ Sandra D. – Fall 2018
“The ratio of coaches to students is fantastic. I’ve taken a number of adult classes in the city and keep coming back to Tucker because of the constant feedback available. All the coaches are great and are able to give useful feedback during the drills. Really great to break out the more experienced skaters from beginners for drills too. It’s a great program and I wish you guys continued success.”
~ Larry N. – Fall 2018
“Dave and Frank provided some really trans-formative feedback for my game, helping me see the ice better and skate with more confidence than I’ve ever had.”
~ Jeff N. – Spring 2018
“The whole 201 program was perfect in my opinion.”
~ Sean D. – Spring 2018
“Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or been playing for years Tucker Hockey offered something for everyone, I’ve never played organized hockey, and was self taught on local community out door ponds but being in my 30’s and playing more and more often I wanted to “clean up” my game, improve my skating and my puck handling. Tucker Hockey was a noticeable difference in my Friday night beer league hockey games with my turns being tighter my strides stronger and my hockey sense smarter. Thanks to all the coaches, a great, all to quick 10 weeks.”
~ Chris D.
“I would highly recommend your program for anyone wanting to develop some hockey sense. I’m a ‘young’ man of 51 and started playing the game a few short years ago. Since I did not have the opportunity to learn hockey as a kid, this program was fantastic in advancing my skills. I love that they offer individualized courses that focus on more specific skills and look forward to taking advantage of those courses in the future The Tucker team are top notch. Patient, professional and all of their instructors have the ability to deal with anything.”
~ Dean L.
“I have taken several Tucker courses and have had the pleasure of being instructed by Frank, Rex and Jimmy. All provided excellent tips and feedback to successfully learn and develop true hockey skills. Although I have skated recreationally most of my life, I am quite new to hockey and the Tucker Hockey Experience is certainly the way to go! Thank you all at Tucker for making my experience fruitful and above all really enjoyable.”
~ Bryan S.
“Overall, all instructors I ran into during my 101 course participation were of excellent calibre. Ron has been a great lead instructor throughout. Very calm character and every exercise was well explained as well as demonstrated by him. Another instructor I’d like to point out is Jimmy who has been breathing down my neck (in a very positive way) pretty much every session to help me get to the level I am at now. Based on my excellent experience, I can definitely recommend Tucker Hockey to everyone looking to get into the game as well as improve their game!”
~ Stephan B.
“Dave, Frank, and Jimmy are awesome coaches! They are willing to work with you to get you to the next level of hockey performance. They make you stoked to play.”
~ Mark R.
“All the Instructors where awesome. Especially Frank and David, being on the Ice for many hours every day and still have the patience and enthusiasm late in the evening for us.”
~ Marc H.
“Frank and Dave are great instructors. They challenge you to work harder and be a better player!”
~ Tony Messer
“Rex and Jimmy, thanks for the Backwards skating addition to your skills program. I learned a lot in those three sessions. A fundamental skill that goes into the tier two for most people but I firmly believe as a skater you are totally incomplete with out it. Struggled? YES! Loved every minute. Please continue to offer this skill set…even go to five sessions??? All the best for the summer guys. Great Job! Please pass on my regards to Dave Mahoney as well.”
~ Rob P.
“I am 29 years old and had just started playing hockey 2 years ago. I was hesitant to start because all my other friends have been playing since they were 5 years old. Getting started was tough but I got on the ice every opportunity I had. When I heard about Tucker hockey programs I was excited to hear there were others like me who had just started the sport and needed to learn the basics. After taking 3 programs I have greatly increased my basic skill level. The instructors are very helpful and they are very understanding. I was around players that were great hockey players and ones that had a hard time stopping. They have programs for everyone and if your thinking about signing up you should.”
~R.B. L.
“Rex Tucker was great at teaching. Performed examples slowly and methodically in ways that allowed you to really break down the drills and learn them properly. He helped me learn how to do backwards crossovers in literally 1 session.”
~ Tim F.
“The last course I took was 201 with Dave and Frank. I found that Dave and Frank were really helpful in being open and honest in encouraging students to try tips. For me personally, cutting my stick really helped my puck control. Skating with my tongue outside my shin guard, and lacing my skates a little looser really improved my skating, that attention to detail to my game was really helpful.”
~ James S.
“I appreciated both Rex’s & Jim’s positive nature and sense of humour. Their knowledge of the game and constructive feedback is beneficial regardless of what level of hockey you have played.”
~ Jason M.
“Unlike most instructors David Mahoney understands why adults take these courses. Although I am not a teacher I think that teaching adults and children require a different skill set. David SHARES his knowledge of hockey and skating, he doesn’t lecture or talk down to you, and is excited for you when you make progress.”
~ Len M.
“Rex and the instructors were amazing. Solid knowledge of the game, pointed and specific coaching, and commentary in every drill made this a remarkable experience. I would recommend this program to anybody!”
~ Sherry H.
“I’ve been skating since I was four years old and I’ve played hockey on an inconsistent basis. But, I’ve never had proper skating instruction. With Tucker Hockey, I’ve been able to significantly improve my skating, in all directions, balance, and edge control. The instruction is great and it’s a lot of fun!”
~ Jay N.
“Tucker has the ability with his step by step skating progression to ‘teach old dogs new tricks’. My skating has never been so efficient and even in a group environment one has the ability to progress individually.”
~ Chris D.
“From start to finish this program was very good. I was very poor at backwards skating. Once Tucker and his associates broke down the simplification of backward skating and did a step-by-step process it really made me understand the techniques to skating backwards. I am a better/stronger backwards skater now. The techniques made me a more complete player. Rex has brought back my enjoyment of hockey!”
~ Jason J.
“I had a great session with Ash, Jim and Rex. They’re all very knowledgeable and really tailored drills to my skill level. Being an adult beginner, I credit the three instructors for helping my game progress from zero to being able to compete in my division. A big thanks for all the help guys!”
~ Renny C.
“When I took the first class I couldn’t even do the forward inside edge c turn. I’m much improved since then but still have a long way to go. So I’ll keep taking the courses because it’s the best way for me to improve. The first time I played hockey was about five years ago when I took the first course with Rex. I currently play in two leagues and wish I hadn’t waited so long as I really enjoy it, but if not for Rex’s courses I would have quit by now. So thank you and Rex for the free session but more importantly thanks for turning me into a hockey player. As I didn’t start until I was 56 I had much catching up to do. I’ll never be as good as some of these guys (that isn’t Rex’s fault) that have played all their lives, but I’m out there doing it and having fun in the process.”
Thanks again,
~ Ron W.
“I went into 101 knowing how to skate but unable to break it down and succeed in individual edge control. With the drills laid out in an easy progression I was able to build on what I had until I became comfortable on my edges. An unexpected gain for me was an improvement in my slap-shot (which until 101 I was largely unable to do). Rex made a single adjustment to my stance and I was able to fire off a pretty nice shot. The quality of instruction was exceptional. Ron really reiterated good hockey stance and keeping your eyes up. Jim threw in helpful pointers between drills and gave positive feedback (it was important to know something was being done well in addition to what needed work). Not only would I recommend this program, I will be taking it again in the fall to re-tune my skills before my next hockey season.”
~ Staci C.
“Before joining up with Tucker hockey, I could barely skate, if you were to see me get on the ice the first night, you would have laughed and thought that I should get my money back. But by the end of the 5th day I was able to skate backwards, forwards very confidently and my puck handling went from not knowing how to handle a stick to scoring easily at the end of the week. Just keep a smile on your face and you’ll love it :)”
~ Derek H.
“Being 26 and female and just joining the world of hockey, I was slightly intimidated. Tucker hockey programs are HUGE amount of fun! The instruction was excellent and the atmosphere made it very easy to learn. I recommend tucker hockey to anyone looking to get out to meet new people and get some exercise or have a serious interest in improving their skills at a more intense level!” All around and amazing experience!”
~ Laura D.
“I want to thank Jim for his support and instruction during my struggles on inside edges, even though I kept falling he had the patience and understanding to work with me. I also want to thank Rex and the smaller gentlemen with the goatee for helping find better fitting skates which made a significant comfort and performance enhancement. Thank you and I will be taking the 101 again!”
~ Aman L.
“Ron Wong provided clear, intelligible instructions on the techniques being taught with perfectly executed demonstrations. He didn’t move on to the next drill until everyone was ready and ensured that anyone who need additional attention received it from one of the other instructors.”
~ Dominic D.
“Dave and Frankie are very encouraging hockey instructors. I am 61 years old female. Dave and Frankie taught me to skate backwards. When I play with other women, they are impressed with my shots. Dave and Franke taught me how to shot better. My balance, strength and flexibility are better because of Tucker Hockey. Thank you for your encouragement. Some day I hope my grand daughter, Olivia will attend Tucker Hockey lessons with me.”
~Diane D.
“Tucker hockey is worth every penny! The instructors are great, the price is right, and the atmosphere is always fun!”
~ Daniel S.
“I first want to say that I found the beginner level of adult hockey quite good. I have played many years but I still learned a lot. It was very well done. Coach Ron and his gang did a great job.”
~Tim (Spring 2019)
“Tucker Hockey truly has the best program and we’ll be back next year. All the Coaching staff are beyond remarkable to teach any age and combination of ages in groups like power skating. I wanted to reach out today to say give a shout out to Korwin, what incredible mentor. All week he’s gone the extra mile with Gavin and today blew me away. He pushed Gavin remarkably well to the point Gavin called me over to say he couldn’t do dryland this evening in Strathmore. The technique Gavin left the ice with tonight was a huge thanks to your team and to Korwin who worked a lot with Gavin. I could see many parents smiling while they all had fun. That’s what hockey is about, having fun and learning. Thank you.”
~ Claudette T., Mother to Gavin
“Wanted to say thank you! My kids have done several different hockey camps and listening to them talk about this course on the drive home yesterday was inspiring. They really enjoy it; they say the coach is great. He gives clear instructions as wants you to be a better player and challenge yourself……. So, I wanted to pass along that feedback, hockey coaching comes in many flavours, and we appreciate the approach at Tucker. We will definitely be signing up for future classes.”
~ Rachel, Mother of Claire and Gabriel – Summer 2021
I just wanted to thank your organization for an amazing job working with my son this summer. He had never played hockey before and could barely skate. But your instructors were so kind, motivating and skilled that after a week, my son began loving hockey. The camp ratio was incredible as it was 2 instructors for 5 kids. It was very professional and ran smoothly. Well worth the cost of the camp and I would highly, highly recommend Tucker to anyone. We’ve been to a lot of other camps for our older son and have never had instructors as engaged, and friendly as yours. Often you get a ‘drill sergeant ‘ type of instructor with some other organizations and I found that does nothing to engage the kids and have them feeling good about the sport of hockey. Even watching the other instructors with the older kids, they were never cold and tough – but light-hearted, hard working and highly skilled. It was delightful to see everyone smiling and I find you always get more with honey than vinegar. So thank you again for being so wonderful!
~ The Todd Family – Summer 2020
“It was my first experience with power skating so I didn’t know what to expect nor can I comment on the curriculum. What I can say though, is that my son’s skating and hockey skills are noticeable better and more fine tuned now than they were before, therefore, the goal was accomplished.”
~ Tonia B, Mother of Bennett – Christmas 2018
“My son Alex started attending Tucker Hockey camps during his second year of Atom, which he played on a division 7 team. Right up until his second year Pee Wee, division 2 team.
He now plays for the Calgary Buffalos AA Bantam Rangers team and he gives credit to the Tucker Hockey programs for helping him acquire the skills necessary to make an elite hockey team.
He would participate in the Elite power skating and hockey skills programs each year, some times twice a year. After completing each camp, I felt he came out a stronger skater which brought power, speed and finesse to his practices and games. I appreciated that the instructors would take the time to individually coach the children during drills, strength training and while working on their technique.
Rex’s technical training has stuck with my son over the years and I believe it has helped him to advanced his hockey skills to an elite level of hockey.
To this day I see Alex doing signature Tucker moves on the ice during practice and warm up. ”
~ Christine M, Mother of Alex – Fall 2018
“I really liked how the skills were introduced, and how the session flowed from 1 skill to another or a game, etc. Very well organized and progression within a certain skill was noticeable. Instructors worked well together.”
~ Christy R, Mother of Luke – Summer 2018
“I thought both the on-ice curriculum and quality of instruction are top notch.”
~ Ronald C, Father of Joffrey – Summer 2018
“It is excellent. I think Tucker probably provides one of the best private hockey development programs in western Canada. My son always comments on what he has learned after spending just one hour on the ice with Tucker. The other thing that impresses me is the amount of 1:1 time instructors have spent showing a genuine interest in his development.”
~ Carber G, Father of Kai – Summer 2018
“The on ice curriculum was excellent. it met the expectation of Hockey CANADA GUIDELINES for the age group my son was in. focusing on skating, edge control and puck control.
The instructors were great, personable. and shared their passion for Hockey to which the kids picked up and showed in the kids enthusiasm.”
~ Dwayne C, Father of Declan – Summer 2018
“This is my sons favourite camp to attend!”
~ Felix B, Father of Casper – Summer 2018
“The instruction exceeded our expectations! We had our son enrolled in the conditioning camp through Tucker, we followed they with a week of conditioning through our hockey association. The difference in intensity and direction was HUGE. Tucker Hockey really provides your child with top notch instruction. Not sure who the instructor for the conditioning camp was but he was GREAT! The kids were worked hard but still had a good time. I will, and have already, recommended the Tucker Hockey camps to anyone looking for hockey camps.”
~ Richard & Melissa, Parents of Aric – Summer 2018
“We continue to put Adam into Tucker Hockey programs because we feel the instruction he receives and the drills that are performed provide him with a good basis to start the season. After that it’s up to him to continue with the training drills during his practice and game warm-up.”
~ David L, Father of Adam – Summer 2018
“I was happy with the progression of drills and quality of instruction. Was exactly what I was looking for. I had high expectations and they were met.
One of the key aspects that attracted us was the ice times – doing an evening ice time that gave me time to get home from work the week before evaluations worked well for us. Here is what I liked:
-ice time (evening, the week before evals)
-instructor to player ratio
-splitting into smaller groups based on skill
-individualized attention within small group
-progression of drills, including challenging the skaters with harder drills
-positive feedback to players
My son enjoyed the camp and did well at evals!”
~ Russell K, Father of Miles – Summer 2018
“The drills and progression was excellent each week had review with an added drill or skill to learn. Instructors are excellent and took the time to provide one on one to each of the players. ”
~ Chris G, Father to Jackson – Spring 2018
“It was great that throughout the checking clinic the coaches would give feedback during a drill and stop to talk to the a child individually to ensure they got it. This is the key to learning!”
~ Alex P., Father to Hayden – Spring 2018
“The instructors did a great job keeping it enjoyable while still getting their points across. They seemed very knowledgeable and demonstrated the drills effectively. I thought they encouraged the players in a positive manner.”
~ Shaun M., Father to Kassidy & Elena – Spring 2018
“Great instruction ongoing and during exercises as well as throughout. Good access for child to ask questions. Great responses from instructors. Good information and very relevant.”
~ Kari C., Father to Peyton – Spring 2018
“Coach Dave and Frank, After a mediocre year of coaching from his minor hockey association, my son still developed from his weekly morning experience with both of you. He never complained about the 5:45am wake up to see you guys. Both of you have been a huge part of his development and love for the game over the years. We will always make it a priority to involve your program in his development. We can’t thank you enough!”
~ Mehbs A, Father to Armaan
“I wanted to reach out concerning my observations of the Group 14 session from Aug 29-02Sep. I thought that there were very well run, focusing on working the proper skill sets, especially the power skating in showing the fundamentals of edge control, proper body position, effective stride length and the importance of balance. These very important fundamental skills that are normally lacking and or not executed well by hockey schools, I was very pleased with how Tucker Hockey delivered these to the group and especially to my son, Adam. Thank you again for a job well done and I have no problem recommending Tucker Hockey.”
Brian M., Father to Adam
“Our son enjoyed tucker hockey so much. After each lesson he came off the ice sweating and excited- he was also happy to improve his skills. Rex was a great instructor and the kids loved his enthusiasm and the kids seem to connect with him. My son loved his week with tucker hockey and learned that hockey is a game to be mastered BUT mostly enjoyed.”
Amanda P., Mother to Adam
“Our son did the Elite power skating for a week this summer. This is a great program! He has always hated power skating and he wasn’t looking forward to the program but he really enjoyed it. The kids worked hard and had terrific instruction. He said that was the best camp he has ever been to and he learned a lot.”
Sherry & Owen M., Parents to Kyle
“Tucker Hockey has helped my son improve on his skills and confidence in hockey. We have been using your program for the last 3 years and my son has gone from the bottom of his level now to the middle. My son loves the program and can not wait to join again in the spring once regular season is over. Thanks to Rex and all the other instructors for taking the time to show my son that hockey a great sport.”
Karen W., Mother to Nathan
“All of the instructors were very skilled and it was obvious they love working with kids and sharing their love for the game. My son came away a far better skater than when he went in.”
Chris H., Father to Michael
“My son was very worried about the body contact coming in Bantam. Their contact camp provided him with all the tools he needed to come out a more confident player. He is ready for the upcoming season! We tried a different camp through a different company, and it didn’t even come close to this one. Highly recommend this for any nervous Bantam players out there.”
Jass S., Mother to Daylen
“My son Matthew continues to grow his skating ability and his confidence. After going through ten sessions in the spring hockey program and another 5 sessions at the end of August he has received several comments on his improved quickness and lateral movement. I will continue to enroll my son in the Tucker program as it is second to none.”
Samantha W., Mother to Matthew
“I would highly recommend Tucker Hockey to anyone. This is our second year registering my son and I find the coaching staff incredibly efficient and professional. My son was worked hard during the conditioning camp and no player stood around they were constantly moving and performing drills. Ratio of coach to player is great. Thanks for a great camp.”
Maria M., Mother to Adam
“My son Jameson (J.J.) recently attended a skating camp for the 5-6 year old group at Rose Kohn arena from April 13-16. Wow what a fantastic experience for both father and son. JJ loved it and I was so impressed by the instructors and content. The development that I saw in a short 4 day period was beyond any expectations I could have hoped for. There is nothing a father loves more than to see his child have fun as he attains new skills and for four days and even now reminiscing I am all smiles. Please pass on a huge thank you to all the staff that helped out during the camp, they did an outstanding job.”
Brad G., Father to JJ
“I was really impressed with the instructors. My son suffered a fracture and missed the last few classes of his skating program. Even after missing classes and knowing the instructor had 150+ students that session, I took a chance and asked if he had any recommendations for program we should take in lieu. David emailed me with precise memories about my son’s participation and really solid recommendations for his recuperation. As well, Christyne is amazing. She answers my inquiries quickly and accurately if she can but she is ok with saying, ” I better check, I will get right back to you” I know that sounds pretty basic but it really isn’t. Even better she does get right back to me.”
Thanks

“My daughter would love to be interviewed! She had a great experience with her spring camp. She really enjoyed the extra help Jimmy gave her. This was her first hockey camp and she left feeling so confident! She has lots to learn to catch up to kids her age, but she feels ready. It makes a difference when a coach is positive and puts extra effort into the kids. We did not see this in my son’s camp that we had him in (another company) and we really wished we would have put him in Tucker instead of with his friends.”
~ Vivian O., Mother to Kaylee
“Our family was really impressed by Tucker hockey instruction in general. Our son is recently turned 7 and sometimes has difficulty following what instructors expect from him. We thought the instructors spent time with the kids and really took the time to help the kids understand the drills both by description and demonstration. They really highlighted the goals of the drills and then spent some time correcting the kids while they were doing the drills. We thought they interacted with the kids on all levels so they were able to reach the kids who might have a preferred way of learning in most cases.”
~ Aris D., Father to Samuel
“Finally, to see a hockey program that is design to develop hockey skills, professionally managed with quality of the instructors and variety of drills that you can’t see at the minor hockey rinks. At the end our kids still have a lot of fun but on a different level.”
~ Jim H., Father to Bobby
“We enrolled our son in the hockey skills program during Christmas break. This was hands down the best hockey camp we have ever done. The kids were always engaged and moving around and the Coaches seemed very knowledgeable and handled the kids great! He improved greatly in a short period of time and had fun doing it. We would definitely use Tucker hockey in the future. Thanks so much!”
~ Tanja S., Mother to Kamren
“Regardless of age, gender and initial skill level, Tucker Hockey is a great program for any child interested in improving their skating skills. The on-ice curriculum progresses at a gradual pace and the instructors are very informative and helpful. Simply put, Tucker Hockey is an awesome program that I would highly recommend.”
~ Julie H., Mother to Bret
“My son Ethan had a lot of fun, and has asked to come back. I see that his skating has improved. There is no reason not to come back. Thank you to you Rex and your team!”
~ Duc P., Father to Ethan
“I have heard great things from coaches and parents about the power skating that Rex provided for the Saints Novice Teams. One of the comments I heard was that it gives kids who have had no access to power skating a chance to improve their speed. From my son’s perspective he really felt worked out doing the power skating more so than during a regular practice. Thank you again for providing this for our association.”
~ Patty R., Mother to Brock & Cody
“My son loved the camp and at evaluations for community hockey I noticed the increased improvement in all his skills. this year we should not be in the bottom team thank you tucker hockey.”
~ Gerald M., father to Tyler
“I saw that Tyson skating improved over the course of the week camp. He was able to shoot harder and attempt to stick handle now. I think he gained more confidence.”
~ Tonya S., Mother to Tyson
“I don’t know the instructor’s names b/c this was our first experience with Tucker hockey but we were very impressed with their enthusiasm and how they made it fun while still pushing and challenging the kids to learn a lot of various skills and drills.”
~ Juanita Z., Mother to Jackson
“My son said after the first day ” That was the best! Can’t wait to be back tomorrow.” He was sad it was over at the end of the week. He asked for more.”
~ Kim T., Mother to Joseph
“The Tucker Hockey program was great. My son learned a lot as was apparent by the huge improvement in his skating skills from the Monday to the Friday. I would definitely recommend this program and certainly plan to use it myself in the future.”
~ Julie H., Mother to Bret
“Our boys really enjoyed the coaching from Rex, Dave, Colton and all the coaches. The kids always left each session with a smile on their face. They couldn’t wait for the next session to start and they learnt a lot. For these reasons, we will definitely attend Tucker camps in the future.”
~ Tom B., Father to Mason & Braden
“All of the instructors were so good with our son. This was his first hockey camp and he loved it, he would come home and tell us all about what he did and how great his teachers were. You guys did wonders for his confidence and his skills. We will be booking our son in another camp through Tucker Hockey and will be suggesting all our friends do the same. We would really like to thank the lady with the short hair (sorry I do not know her name) but she paid special attention to our son and really helped him with his skills. Thank you so much tucker hockey.”
~ Sarah C., Mother to Ty
“Rex was an inspiration to my son he taught him valuable skills and took the time to ensure he was learning the right techniques! Thank you!!”
~ Tracy F., Mother to Dayton
“This conditioning camp is second to none! The first comment my son made coming off the ice after the first session was “it’s not what I expected”. He has never been to a hockey camp that challenged him to the extent that Tucker’s Conditioning Camp did. Every on-ice session was hard work but worth it.”
~ Mary Ann K., Mother to Dylan
“I was impressed by all the instructors. The directions were clear and well demonstrated and the instructors followed up when my son needed clarification on the drill. They watched each child and really worked with them to encourage them to use proper form. We will definitely send my son to another Tucker Power Skating Program again. Thank you for a great week!”
~ Linda C., Mother to Jeremy
“We liked the fact that the ice was always well run, great use of ice and time. The transition of drills to teach backwards skating was excellent. We would absolutely recommend and re-register in Tucker camps and/or ice sessions. Best camp my son has ever been in.”
~ Kim & Srecko Z., Parents of Maksim
“Connor made the Div 2 Peewee team… we owe much of that to you guys at Tucker Hockey… he only started skating two years ago. When he first stepped out onto the ice for his first year of Atom hockey he could barely take 3 steps without falling; let alone shoot the puck. Each year he’s made pretty significant leaps and finally this year he’s wound up on a team where most of the kids have six or more years of experience. It’s a little bitter sweet as he’s left a lot of his old teammates behind but this shy, quiet, ADHD kid is really starting to feel good about him self and is seeing the dividends of hard work (life lesson?). Connor always has a great time with you guys, loves the instructors and asks for more training. As parents, we’re witnessing a pretty remarkable transformation in hockey and more importantly, who he’s becoming as a person. We’ll be sure to continue supplementing his team development with your programs and camps… thanks again.”
~ Dan A., Father of Connor
“The on-ice curriculum is great and very fast paced. Brandt loves it. I am sure that you are aware of how fortunate you are to have an instructor like Dave Mahoney, it is rare to find an employee who represents his employer as if he owned the business himself. I really can’t say enough about Dave, quality guy! Both Dave and Frank are excellent. As Dave leads the drills Frank is there watching for anybody struggling with the drill and giving extra instruction. We have been to other programs, but to me, nothing compares to the instructors at Tucker. We haven’t had a negative experience to date and I don’t expect that we will in the future. As I have said before, Brandt loves it and the instructors keep us coming back.”
~ Mark P., Father of Brandt
“Coach Dave ran a fun but disciplined session and ensured that the students demonstrated an understanding of the drills and games they undertook. Although they had a lot of enjoyment, they at the same time knew what acceptable and unacceptable behaviour was and the consequences of crossing the line between the two. The odd extra lap our son did for not focusing or listening, went a long way to improving his concentration not only in the Tucker sessions but during his regular team practices and games.”
~Shaun K., Father of Alex
“I feel tucker Hockey provided my son with excellent instruction to improve his hockey. There was good emphasis on all aspects of the game that my Timbit level requires. At the same time they encouraged the students throughout, kept them focused, and maintained a fun atmosphere.”
~ Robert E., Father of Andrew
“The instruction was excellent. The coaches were very professional following a show to tell method of training. I enjoyed the fact that the instructors were patient with all of the children and did not ever raise their voices. I encourage all young players I encounter to participate in the programs.”
~ Lawrence R., Father of Adam
“After a few years in his programs I’ve improved a lot, really taken my game to the next level… the one piece of advice I leave here with: always keep your knees bend and keep strong edges. I can’t count off the top of my head but I’ve done tons and love his programs.”
~ Darren M., former Calgary Royals AA Player
“My son participated in a checking clinic with Tucker Hockey. The instruction on proper hitting techniques, safety and how to take a hit boosted my son’s confidence on the ice during games to a whole new level. It was a well-structured program that challenged my son in all aspects of contact hockey with the emphasis on fun. A great clinic that I feel should be taken by all players to reduce the injury component of the game. A nice job well done.”
~ Clint B.; Father of Colton
“I registered my son in Tucker hockey because it didn’t seem like his team was developing as much as other players that had more ice times this past season. I thought all of the instructors were great with the children and were very professional. I am very pleased with the program and have already registered my son for another session. Good Job!!!”
~ Bruce S., Father of Kayne
“The Tucker Hockey Power Skating program was an excellent opportunity for my son to fine tune and improve his skating skills. We look forward to returning, and to eventually trying the Elite Power Skating.”
~Laurence R., Father of Uriah
“James was born in Mexico and had never been on ice until last February, he loved Hockey, and wanted to play this winter, after two Tucker session he has gone from a non- skater to a skater with the ability now to play organized hockey. Tucker Hockey is a great program, that uses Power skating instruction and adds fun, a great teaching method for all.”
~ Don M., Father of Jimmy
“My son was in the spring session I thought is was excellent, it was one of the better or best session my son has attended. Usually he is not too enthusiastic about power skating but for this one there was never a complaint and I could see a noticeable improvement in his speed.”
~ Kevin S., Father of Parker
“Tucker has a way of making the learning portion, fun and interesting for kids. They are patient and positive, that’s why we will be back.”
~ Darren H., father of Carter
“Great camp! I saw a marked improvement in my son’s puck handling and skating skills after the session. The days were well organized, had great player/coach ratios and the coaches really took the time to give EVERY player, whether skilled or not, individual attention on the skills that were being worked on. Thank you Tucker Hockey!”
~ Josh S., Father of David
“Our son Brandt has dramatically improved his skating ability with each session he has attended. As his skills increase so does his confidence and love for the game. The instructors are excellent and great with the kids, nobody gets left behind, they work with each child individually until they understand and are able to complete each drill. Tucker Hockey will continue to be part of Brandt’s development.”
~ Mark P., Father of Brandt
“I learned to play Hockey through the Tucker Adult programs and couldn’t wait for my son to be old enough to participate in the Tucker programs as well. I will always enroll him with Tucker as long as he plays hockey.”
~Rick F., Father of Matthew
“Our son has shown a great improvement in his skating after taking the Tucker Hockey Power Skating sessions. The instructors all do a wonderful job, the kids work hard but are having so much fun they don’t even notice. Our son is much more confident in his skating now which makes hockey more fun. Thank you Tucker Hockey!”
~ Christy C, Mother of Nixon
“Hi Rex. Jacqueline and I thought you’d get a kick out of this in a very positive way relative to the impact you’ve had on Alexander. Long story short they were playing the B side semi -final for their Atom 6 City Playdowns Saturday and it went to triple overtime and they were down to two on two plus a goalie for each Team. Alexander made a nice rush and was hauled down. A penalty was called, however, in the City Playdowns overtime penalties result in a penalty shot. He stepped up in front of a lot of people skated in confidently and rifled a wrist shot for the winning goal. When we were driving home later and chatting about this moment for him, he described the shot along the lines of “just like Rex showed me to do – shoot where the goalie isn’t”. You have been a very positive influence on him as it relates to hockey and seeing it for what it is, an opportunity to first and foremost have fun in a sport, and secondly something that you can work hard at developing your skills.”
~ Robert H., Father of Alexander
“The Tucker Hockey Christmas camp was an excellent experience. The instruction level was top notch with a small ratio of skaters to instructors which allowed them to help each skater on an individual basis as needed. The drills were excellent and they made sure all the skaters knew how to do them properly so they could progress to the next drill. I would not hesitate to put my son back in a Tucker Hockey power skating clinic at any time.”
~ Trevor B., Father of Ryan
“Hi, Brendan just finished the 7 to 9 years old power skating on Saturday mornings the 8:15 class. He loved it and I thought his skating really improved, especially his backwards skating. I thought the classes were well organized with a great variety of drill and fun drills for the kids too, no wasted time and the instructor to student ratio was great! All in all, a great job by Tucker Hockey. Hopefully I can get him in a class before evaluations in September either another group lesson or failing that a private one on one lesson.”
~ Murray C., Father of Brendan
“Skating and puck handling drills, exceptional & professional instruction – great ice management”
~ Guilio C., Father of Fabio
“I liked how the instructors worked with the kids. My son hadn’t skated very much, or, played hockey for that matter, and the instructors were wonderful with him.”
~ Julio S., Mother of Alex
“My son Scott has been in your program previously, I think your programs are excellent and Scott would like to enrol in your Easter Power Skating Program.”
~ Paul G., Father of Scott
Wanted to say thank you! My kids have done several different hockey camps and listening to them talk about this course on the drive home yesterday was inspiring. They really enjoy it, they say the coach is great. He gives clear instructions as wants you to be a better player and challenge yourself. The convo then degraded into bad coaching experiences they’ve had in the past (un be know to me..). So I wanted to pass along that feedback, hockey coaching comes in many flavours and we appreciate the approach at Tucker. We will definitely be signing up for future classes.
~ Rachel C, Mother to Claire and Gabriel – Summer 2021
“Rex, Thanks again for your custom sessions with my adult rec hockey team. After losing 8 games in a row, we are undefeated for the last 5 games! Our turnaround can be pinpointed to our last set of Tucker sessions. As a team, we learned and practised some important skills and tactics that allowed us to have more fun with the game. We are much more confident with the puck and passing it around with purpose. We can’t thank you, Jimmy and Frank enough for the great instruction!”
~ Gerry K., Rice Kings
“What a great weekend of hockey at Springdale Stadium. The Tucker hockey camp has been a great experience for the players and the coaches. The skating, puck handling and shooting skills the players have learned through this camp can now be used in their minor hockey practices and games. Also, the things our coaches have learned from working with Rex Tucker has been tremendous. Just the opportunity to work with such a professional has been great and the skills that our coaches have learned through this camp can now be taught to all the great kids of SDMHA. One of the things that Rex said about the weekend was that the kids of SDMHA were a pleasure to work with.”
~ Jamie T., President Springdale District Minor Hockey Association, Springdale, Newfoundland
“During the mid season break between games, we were looking for a fresh voice and new experience for our senior Timbits team. We called Mr. Tucker and asked him to come out and work with our kids for two sessions. Mr. Tucker worked with both our coaches and kids in a respectful, upbeat and positive way that not only integrated with the coach’s program, but was fun and energetic for the kids. Our coaches are great, and we are lucky to have them however there is a noticeable difference in the work of a professional coach like Mr. Tucker. Our kids have seen a power skating coach, but Mr. Tucker’s sessions brought more than skating as he consistently integrated hockey fundamentals into his drills and games as well as skating. The parents were also thrilled, and we look forward to our next session with Tucker Hockey which we plan to have very soon.”
~ Aris D, Manager – McKnight Senior Timbits Royal
